Eastern Iowa Ice Cream Parlor Named One of Best in the World
It's been satisfying the sweet tooths of people from eastern Iowa and western Illinois since 1933 and it's now getting worldwide recognition!
Whitey's Ice Cream has been named the 17th best Ice Cream Parlor in the WORLD in a new ranking by The Daily Meal. When I went to college in the Quad Cities, a trip to Whitey's was a must at least, uh, once a week. Ok, maybe a little more often than that. What can I say? I love ice cream and yes, Whitey's really is THAT good.
The Daily Meal rankings include 50 ice cream sellers from 18 different countries. Here's some of what they say about Whitey's:
For 85 years, Whitey’s Ice Cream has churned out scoops, shakes, and floats with the same recipes and focus on exemplary customer service. Founded by Chester “Whitey” Lindgren in 1933, the business was taken over by Bob and Norma Tunberg in 1953, and the ice cream shop remains in the Tunberg family. There are at least 38 flavors on offer, which change based on the season.
You can read their full description of Whitey's HERE.
Whitey's now has ten locations, six them in eastern Iowa including at Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville! You can get it at Hy-Vee, too. So grab a carton, a cone... it really doesn't matter as long as it says Whitey's. I assure you, you won't regret it. Just be sure to grab a little for your dog too. Be careful, though... many dogs are lactose intolerant.
