Drought Concerns Already Showing Up In Iowa

Even with the showers we had last weekend and Memorial Day weekend, parts of Iowa are already experiencing a drought.

This comes from the latest U.S. Drought Monitor. Areas of central, south-central, and extreme northeast Iowa are seeing abnormally dry weather. 11% of Iowa farmers are affected.

There is some good news though. Mark Licht, Iowa State University Extension agronomist tells AgWeb “Abnormally dry is the least severe rating the U.S. Drought Monitor assigns. Presumably over the next two U.S. Drought Monitor releases, those areas will increase due to drier and warmer weather over the past and next week.”

The hot weather is about to hit Iowa and when it does, it won't take long 'til moisture is needed everywhere. Hopefully, it will come when Iowa farmers, and their crops, most need it.
