Did You Ban a Certain Song from Playing at Your Wedding?
Not everybody wants to hear the classics!
A couple of years ago, I stood up in my best friend's wedding. During the wedding planning process, she revealed to me that she had made some rules for the DJ at the reception. At first, I was a little bit confused, but then she explained to me that she had given him a list of songs that were absolutely forbidden from being played during the event. Once I saw the list, it made total sense.
There are certain songs that you hear at every single wedding you go to, but does anyone actually LIKE hearing them? I'm sure some people do, which is why they get played in the first place, but when do we decide that enough is enough? Here are the top five most banned wedding songs, as of last summer:
- The Chicken Dance - 23.1%
- Cha-Cha Slide - 22.5%
- Macarena - 17.6%
- Cupid Shuffle - 16.5%
- YMCA - 15.4%
Some of the other notable answers include "The Hokey Pokey," "Shout," and "Love Shack." The number one song my best friend didn't want played at her reception? "We are Family."
