Get ready for a giant party! Cedar Rapids has once again been named one of the 20 best cities in America to celebrate St. Patrick's Day! If you live here in Eastern Iowa you probably already knew this, but it's nice to get some national recognition.

The website WalletHub has released their 2019 list of the "Best Cities for St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations," with Iowa breaking the top 20. They used "17 key metrics" in their study, including crime rates, beer prices, and parties per capita. Iowa ranked 16th in the nation, coming in 37th for 'St. Patrick's Day Traditions,' 33rd for 'Safety & Accessibility,' and 12th for 'St. Patrick's Day Weather.' The only overall category we didn't do well in was 'Costs,' coming in 65th place. It's also worth noting that we came in 4th for 'Highest Percent of Irish Population!'

Since moving to Iowa four years ago, I have never had ONE bad St. Patrick's Day (knock on wood). Between the parade and the bar-hopping downtown, St. Patrick's Day is the only holiday that I can always count on to be amazing. I've pleaded with my Michigan friends to come visit during the holiday (Detroit came in 172nd place), but nobody has taken me up on my offer yet. Their loss!

The top cities for celebrating include:

  1. Chicago, IL
  2. Philadelphia, PA
  3. Madison, WI
  4. Boston, MA
  5. Tampa, FL
