Courtlin’s Resolution Movie List: Week 6

I'm a few days late, because I was in Michigan this weekend, but I did it! I watched another movie off of my New Year's Resolution Movie List (better late than never)! This one didn't make the original list, but I came across it on Netflix and I knew I had to watch it: The ORIGINAL Footloose (1984).

I've seen the remake with Julianne Hough, and I actually really enjoyed it, but I HATE watching remakes without seeing the originals. Even though I saw them in reverse order, I think that the remake did do it justice. Kevin Bacon's 80s dance moves are seriously hilarious, and I just love the selection of music. What really bothered me was the lack of concern for domestic abuse. Ariel gets slapped by her dad and then beat up by her ex-boyfriend and NOBODY DOES ANYTHING. I was so confused and really disgusted! And speaking of Ariel, her fashion choices crack me up. No bra and mom jeans: Gotta love the 80s! My favorite scene is when they sneak out and go to the country bar. I can't even believe that Sarah Jessica Parker was in this movie! She was so young!
