Back in late September, we told you about a new restaurant that was opening here in Downtown Cedar Rapids. ChopHouse Downtown, located at 411 1st St SE, held their official grand opening on September 25th, the same day as the Market After Dark. I've heard very good things about the new restaurant, so this weekend I decided to go check it out!

ChopHouse Downtown is located right next door to the former Dublin City Pub in the space that was once home to River City Eatery. It's tough to spot it right now because the road out front is blocked off due to construction, but don't let that stop you from going to check it out. We parked just up the street, so it was only a two minute walk to the restaurant.

Because we went in before 4 p.m. on Saturday, we were only able to order off the first half of the menu. We were a little bummed at first (I had my eye on that mac & cheese), but we quickly got over it because everything we ordered was great! We, OF COURSE, started with the 'Mound of Nachos,' because you know I have to try them everywhere I go. We ordered ours with chicken, but steak is also an option. We also opted to get the pico/cilantro on the side. Between the two of us, we couldn't finish them all!

We both chose sandwiches for our meals. My friend ordered the Grilled Salmon Sandwich with a side of Charred Broccolini, plus an extra side of the Herbed Potato Medley. I tried the potatoes, so I can confirm they were really good, but I think my friend's favorite part of the meal was the Charred Broccolini. She ate every single piece!

I went a little less... healthy with my pick. I opted for the Steak Sandwich with no mushrooms and a side of waffle fries. I thought everything was delicious, including the ranch! I took half of the sandwich home and reheated it later on with a slice of pepper jack cheese, so I got to enjoy it twice.

It's been a long time since we've had a restaurant over in that area, so we are hoping that ChopHouse Downtown sticks around! The next time I visit, I'm for sure gonna try the ChopHouse Mac N Cheese, and maybe the Jumbo Garlic Shrimp, too.

Several other restaurants are in the works in Downtown Cedar Rapids right now. The former La Cantina is being turned into Barrel House, Taco Gato is going in where the Lost Cuban was, Grin N Goose will soon be Cliff's Dive Bar & Grill, and a place called Izumi Sushi & Hibachi is moving into the old Wasabi. We're happy to see so many places moving in after a very difficult year for restaurants! We will keep you updated with any new info on any of these restaurants on the app and our website.
