Country Stars Celebrate International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate women everywhere and their accomplishments, whether they inspired a nation or just one person, and country stars came together March 8 to tribute women in all kinds of ways in their social media feeds.
Little Big Town simply posted a photo celebrating one-half of their group, Kimberly Schlapman and Karen Fairchild, with a heart and the hashtag #internationalwomensday. The Dixie Chicks, who have always been proponents of girl power, posted a photo of their band with a sentiment from member Emily Strayer: “I love seeing strong-willed women inspire little girls. I hope someday some new artist will say ‘I was inspired by the Dixie Chicks.’”
Sheryl Crow posted a vintage photo of her mother holding her as a baby, noting she is celebrating her today for the strength with which she raised her and how she continues to inspire her now that she's also a mother.
Jennifer Nettles contributed some poignant words on Twitter: “Let us never fear our own voices. Let us always make known our value.”
Even Dustin Lynch took the opportunity to honor his mom with a photo of them together at the CMA Awards, thanking her for shaping him as a person.
According to its website, International Women’s Day “is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.” Celebrated annually on March 8, the day has been honored since the early 1900s.
