Chris Stapleton's July 20, 2019 concert at the Great Jones County Fair sold out before Christmas of 2018. It had been a long wait for those fans for the hottest seller of this year's entertainment lineup, on what turned out to be the coolest night of the fair, thus far. The fans were ready, and so was Chris Stapleton.

As Danielle and I walked out to intro Chris' good friend, Kendell Marvel, I looked down the hillsides and to one side the people were even beyond my line of sight. It wasn't yet 8 p.m. The fans continued to pour in as Marvel provided the perfect pre-cursor to Chris Stapleton.

A light rain fell during the end of Marvel's set, throughout the set change, and about a third of the way into Stapleton's set but on this night, Mother Nature would cooperate with the fans in Monticello. The rain disintegrated on radar as Chris Stapleton burned up the stage with his great guitar work and the most soulful live voice I've ever heard. When you have the talent of Chris Stapleton, his voice and guitar are enough and he showcased them both beautifully throughout the night.

In case you're wondering, yes Chris does have a band. And what a band it is. It includes a man who spent 46 years in Willie Nelson's band, and Paul Frankin, a steel guitar player and Nashville session musician who has played on more than 500 albums.

Chris Stapleton was everything and more that his fans could've wanted tonight. There was no encore because none was needed. The final song, 'Tennessee Whiskey,' left the perfect taste in everyone's mouth.
