Charges Filed In Water Tower Vandalism Case
The mystery of who painted a love message on an Independence water tower has apparently been solved.
According to a story in the Independence Bulletin Journal, Matthew Luedeman recently turned himself in to authorities. The newspaper reported that Luedeman told police he climbed the water tower around 1 AM on Sept. 1 and wrote “Matt Loves Rebecca” next to a big heart in green paint.
Luedeman reportedly stated that he was aware of the classic Joe Diffie song, but that he does not have a girlfriend named Rebecca.
Authorities have charged Luedeman with first-degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony. They also charged him with trespass causing injury or damage greater than $300, a serious misdemeanor.
