Cedar Rapids to Get Restaurant Chain’s First Iowa Location
A Midwestern chain, based in Missouri, will open its first Iowa location this winter.
The Fountains in northeast Cedar Rapids at the corner of Edgewood and Blairs Ferry Road Northeast will welcome Iowa's first Tanner's Bar and Grill to the location in the photo above. It will overlook the pond.
Tanner's opened its first restaurant in Lenexa, Kansas in 1985 and now has 14 locations across Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. They're best known for their Chicken Lips, which are chicken strips that can be either grilled or breaded and come in up to eight flavor varieties. Their other specialty, half-pound burgers, are known as the Booga.
This leaves only four open storefronts in the fast-growing The Fountains development in Cedar Rapids. It's a part of the city where the roar of construction equipment is constant during daylight hours as the Highway 100 extension project continues from Edgewood Road, eventually connecting with Highway 30.
