Cedar Rapids Police Probing Officer-Targeted Shooting Incident
The Cedar Rapids Police Department (CRPD) says that they are investigating a Friday night shooting incident that was targeted at one of their officers.
No one was injured, with no fatalities reported, according to KCRG, but at about 11:27 p.m. on Friday, April 8, the CRPD reportedly received multiple calls of gunshots being fired in the Cherry Hill neighborhood. The shots were fired at the unnamed officer's home, garage, and a take-home squad car.
In a press release, chief Wayne Jerman said he views the incident as an "intentional violent act" and his department is treating it as a "very serious incident".
Evidence points to this being a targeted shooting toward a sworn peace officer. It was deliberate. It was an act of intimidation and violence and we will not tolerate it. We pursue all shots-fired incidents as serious, senseless actions and as such, receive our complete attention through the full legal process
Jerman is urging anyone with leads to come forward, by calling the Cedar Rapids Police Department at 319-286-5491. Anonymous tips may also be sent to Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-272-7463.
More details will be released when this ongoing criminal investigation allows.
