
Cedar Rapids Police Investigating First Homicide of 2019
A shooting last Tuesday evening in Cedar Rapids has turned deadly.
Tuesday, February 19, just after 6 p.m. Cedar Rapids Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 1800 block of A Ave. NE. During their investigation, police found shell casings in the alley of the 1800 block of A Ave. N.E.
While police were en route to the original shots fired call, they received another call reporting a person with a gunshot wound near Franklin Middle School, about a half-mile away. That victim was inside a vehicle near the school. He received treatment at the scene before being taken to a local hospital.
According to a media release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the man injured was Tenacious Harris. The 20-year-old died from his injuries Sunday morning, January 24, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
