Cedar Rapids Police Dept. Hosting Free Car Safety Seat Inspections
With the pandemic making parents' busy lives even busier, KCRG shares an important reminder from the Cedar Rapids Police Department. Now that families are ramping up travel plans and getting back to normal life as they knew it, you need to get the car safety seat in check. Nearly two-thirds of families improperly install their car safety seats and although Child Passenger Safety Tech Angela Tastad says lots of parents are diligent about getting it done annually, getting it done right fell even further down the backburner due to the pandemic.
Not all car seats are created or installed equally and it's not something where you can just set it and forget it.
Parents should make an appointment with the CRPD to get brushed up on the proper guidelines, at a car safety seat installation event at Noelridge Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 9 and 10. They will work with you to make sure you know the proper procedures before you leave.
You will need to make an appointment for a timeslot, which Iowa's News Now says will be able to serve a family with up two vehicles. Of course, bring the child using the car seat along. Visit the sign-up page for the Noelridge event here and do it fast because slots are filling up.
If you can't make it on those dates, you can always call for an independent checkup with the Cedar Rapids Police Department at (319)654-2221.
