Cedar Rapids Police Announce Arrest in 2017 Murder
The Cedar Rapids Police Department announced in a media release this afternoon that they've made an arrest in the November 2017 murder of 34-year-old Leland Joseph Harris of Cedar Rapids.
November 22, 2017 at 7:25 am, Cedar Rapids Police were called to an alley in the 500 block of 10th St SW. They found Harris' body there. He had died from traumatic injuries. An autopsy by the Linn County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed gunshot wounds, as the cause of death. He is believed to have died late the evening before.
Today, Cedar Rapids Police announced they have arrested 19-year-old James S. Phillips of Cedar Rapids and charged him with Murder-1st Degree. He's also charged with Theft-1st Degree, Conspiracy to Commit a Forcible Felony, and Going Armed with Intent. Phillips was already in the Linn County Jail in Cedar Rapids on other charges.
Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
