Cedar Rapids Parking Confusion: Is My Car Getting Towed?
Parking in downtown Cedar Rapids can sometimes be a challenge. I admit that I've gotten more than my fair share of tickets in the past. But this week I got a letter saying that my vehicle was subject to towing for unpaid parking fines. Really? Why now? It turns out I wasn't alone.
CBS2 reports that ParkCR is confirming a computer glitch that sent tow notices out to drivers. The glitch occurred in the software of a third-party mailing contractor that caused letters to be sent out all over the country, including to me! The notice stated that because of unpaid fines, my car was subject to towing, booting, or impoundment.
But according to CBS2, ParkCR wants anyone who got one of these notices to know that their vehicle is NOT in danger of being towed.
Jon Rouse, the general manager of the parking system in downtown Cedar Rapids told CBS2 that once they got word of the computer error they wanted to get the word out that "we're NOT in the process of towing any vehicles. We sincerely apologize to anyone who was worried about this."
Rouse explained that the people who got the notices do have unpaid fines, but ParkCR only considers towing a vehicle in extreme cases according to CBS2.
