Cedar Rapids Man Arrested After Throwing Dog During Argument
Here we go again. Yet another case of animal abuse.
According to a press release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, a man was arrested after throwing his dog that he shares with his girlfriend during a fight. On Wednesday, June 30 Cedar Rapids Police responded to a disturbance call at Shamrock Condominiums in southwest Cedar Rapids. Upon arrival, police met with 21-year-old Michael Constant who told them that he "had lost his temper with his girlfriend and threw their five-pound Yorkshire Terrier into a wall or door in the hallway of their apartment unit." Constant also told officers that he thought the dog was "severely injured or deceased" since it wasn't moving after being thrown.
Officers went inside the apartment to check and the dog and speak with Constant's girlfriend. The 6-year-old terrier, named Princess, was thankfully still alive and laying on the bed, although she still had difficulty standing. It was also disorientated, and possibly suffering from neck pain. After being seen by a veterinarian, the dog did in fact have a buildup of fluid in the brain causing swelling, and a "slipped or bulging disk."
The Cedar Rapids Police Department arrested Constant on Tuesday, July 6 for Animal Abuse. Animal Care & Control officers seized Princess, and the pup is recovering at the shelter.
I hate seeing animal abuse cases. Earlier this month, a man was arrested in Cedar Rapids after footage surfaced of him violently abusing his girlfriend's dog on multiple occasions. At least arrests are being made in these cases.
