Way to go, Cedar Rapids!

According to an article from Love Food, Cedar Rapids is home to the best hot dog joint in the entire state. That hot dog joint is the iconic Flying Wienie.

"It's loved for the generous portions, friendly service and, of course, sausages. People particularly rave about the Chicago Dog with relish, pickles, tomato, celery salt, mustard and peppers, and the skin-on, hand-cut fries."

That's what the article has to say about The Flying Wienie, which is located at 103 8th Ave SW. The restaurant been in business since 1999 after the owners moved from Chicago to Iowa. The Facebook page reads:

"We're locally owned and operated by a husband and wife duo who love mind-blowing flavors at an affordable price. We've got authentic Chicago-style cuisine and fresh ingredients."

In addition to hot dogs, the Flying Wienie also offers Italian beef, pork tenderloins, gyros, baby back ribs, brats, and more. Brain and I stopped in after a parade back in the summer of 2019, and I couldn't believe I waited so long to try it. I ordered the Chicago dog with cheese fries and a bottle of Millstream Root Beer and it was all perfect. Looking back at the photo I took has inspired me to stop in for lunch this week...

If you want to check out the Flying Wienie, their website says they are currently open for both dine-in and take-out. Their hours are Monday & Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get a look at the menu HERE.
