You'll have another place to cool off and enjoy some ice cream with the family this summer!

It was announced on Facebook this week that Luna Gelato and Ice Cream will be moving into NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids in the very near future. According to the Facebook page, the new shop will be located right next to Aroma Artisan Pizza "in the heart of the market." Actually, Luna Gelato and Ice Cream is an expansion of Aroma Artisan Pizza and is owned by the same person!

I spoke with owner Carol Elliot this morning, and she informed me that the shop will be very focused on buying local. She wrote:

"We're thrilled to partner with Dan and Debbie's Creamery in Ely for ice cream and Capanna Coffee and Gelato in North Liberty for gelato. We are also working with Lezza, a fourth generation Italian bakery and gelataria for gelato and Italian ice."

Carol said that they will always have nine flavors of gelato and eight flavors of ice cream/Italian ice, and that "it's been so fun to select a broad variety of flavors from our partners to bring lots of options to customers." The shop will also sell pints, ice cream sandwiches, and "pupsicles" for your pets!

Luna Gelato and Ice Cream will open for business sometime in early June. You can follow them on Facebook HERE for updates.

It's also important to note that another ice cream shop just opened earlier this month here in Cedar Rapids! The Scoop Coop is located on the patio at LP Street Food at 302 3rd Avenue SW. They offer 12 ice cream flavors, all made here in Iowa, plus alcoholic ice cream floats! You can read more about the new business HERE.
