A lot of people have been wondering if the burn ban that was set in Cedar Rapids after the derecho is still in effect. The answer, despite a ton of rain last week, is yes.

The area is still considered abnormally dry, which tells you how much we needed that rain. So much that it wasn't even enough to catch us up. Warmer conditions and sunny skies will be nice this week, but it will dry much of that rain back up. Given that there's still such a huge amount of debris yet to be collected and according to Iowa's News Now, fire officials say September and October are already prime months for brush fires and wind naturally increases that threat as fall commences. It's a recipe for a dangerous environment and the rapid spread of any degree of fire.

At least a few more passes will have to be made picking up the tree-related debris and that could take a few more weeks. So the burn ban continues until further notice.

The ban on recreational burning will continue until at least the second pass around the city picking up organic debris, according to the CRFD. We will be sure to keep you updated on this information.
