Boat Ramps in Cedar Rapids Closing Today
If you're planning on putting your boat in the Cedar River this week, you better make some different plans.
According to KWWL, "On Tuesday, June 23rd at 4 p.m., the Cedar Rapids Fire Department is closing boat ramps with barricades."
With all of the rain we've gotten in the last couple of weeks, it's no surprise the water level is very high. The story noted the ramps will remain closed until the river falls below 13 feet. The river is currently forecast to reach 16.5 feet on Thursday and it appears it won't fall below 13 feet until Saturday night, at the earliest.
I went out to the Cedar River last weekend and the water was moving pretty fast. We took a spin on a jet boat and didn't see many others out on the water. Usually, on any given Saturday, you see dozens of boats out on the Cedar. But lately, its been pretty quiet.
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department said, "The boat ramp closure period may be modified if river level projections are revised by the National Weather Service."
It looks like there is some rain in the forecast with Friday being the day we could see the most, according to the National Weather Service.
