Saturday, February 28, marks a big day in the Hansen household. My wife, Katie, and I will have be married for 28 years.

Unlike this week and upcoming weekend, back in 1987 the weather was a whole lot warmer than it is now. Actually January and February in 1987 were very mild with hardly any snow. Of course, my dad had to predict that the only snow storm we would get that winter would be February 28th, and his prediction came true.

Friday saw beautiful weather with some sunshine and was about 45 degrees, but a winter storm watch was in effect for Saturday night depending on which way the system would go. Saturday started out great, some sun temperatures around 46 degrees, but a winter storm watch changed over to a winter storm warning. Our wedding was at 5:30 and by the time the ceremony and reception were over (around 8 p.m.), the snow was flying. The Cedar Rapids area received a total around 4-5 inches, but to the north, near Waterloo, where my family is from, they received 10 inches to a foot of snow. The visibility was so bad that some cars were driving the wrong way down I-380 from Center Point to Waterloo.

Everyone made it home safely, but it definitely was a memory maker for everyone who attended our wedding.

Thank you for taking the time to go down memory lane with me.

And to my bride Katie -- I Love You!!!
