Time for a quick reminder as we get ready for the big 4th of July weekend!

As most of you know, fireworks are prohibited in the city of Cedar Rapids. What I didn't know, until this week, is how much the fine could cost you if you're caught lighting them off here in the "City of Five Seasons."

I spoke with an officer from the Cedar Rapids Police Department who told me the ticket for lighting off fireworks in Cedar Rapids is punishable by a fine up to $625.

That's a lot of cash and that's no way to start off the holiday weekend!

He also told me there will be several officers out in the next few days looking for people that are violating the rules. If you want to light off fireworks legally, just go out of city limits somewhere in the county.

I live on the SW side of Cedar Rapids and I've heard fireworks all week. Luckily for me, I have no problems sleeping. I feel sorry for my neighbors and I also feel bad for the animals that are scared of the loud booms.

If you want to enjoy some legal fireworks, stop by Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Kernels will be having a huge display on the 4th of July. There will also be live music, cold beer, and plenty of great food.

Have a great 4th of July and stay safe!
