Ashton Kutcher was a witness in a murder trial yesterday, and the victim was a woman he was dating at the time. Her name was Ashley Ellerin, and she was 22 when she was stabbed to death in February of 2001.

The night she was killed, she was supposed to go out with Ashton. But he couldn't get a hold of her by phone, and when he showed up at her house, she didn't answer the door. He tried to open it but it was locked.

He looked in through a window and saw what he thought were red wine stains on the carpet. He figured he'd been stood up, and he left. Obviously, those were NOT wine stains. It was Ashley's blood. She'd been attacked after she got out of the shower.

The man on trial for her murder, Michael Gargiulo, is also accused of killing two other women and attempting to murder a fourth. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Ashton told his story on the witness stand and even admitted that he was worried at the time because his fingerprints were on the doorknob. At one point Gargiulo's attorney told Ashton he's not a suspect, and he replied, quote, "Yeah, thank you."
