Skaters in the Cedar Rapids area will soon have a new place to hangout! According to a recent article from KCRG, the new Riverside Skate Park is set to open in a few weeks.

Back in September of 2022, it was announced that the skate park at Riverside Park in Cedar Rapids would be shut down. The reason for the shut down was to make room for a new part of the city's flood control system, a large detention basin. But, it was also revealed that the park wouldn't be gone forever! A new skate park would be built nearby, only about 50 feet away from the original one.

Now that summer is here, the new Riverside Skate Park is getting closer to opening. Construction on the park, which is located near C Street SW in the Czech Village area, is well underway. The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation website says that the new park will consist of "similar obstacles in a design that allows for better flow" and "will use concrete instead of steel to meet optimal industry standards." It will also have lighting so that people can skate until close at 10 p.m. Thanks to the great weather we've been having, the project seems to be progressing quickly! KCRG reports that the plan is to open it to the public in July.

In addition to the skate park, a new playground is also in the works at Riverside Park. It'll be a great addition to the Czech Village area! For the latest updates on the new skate park and playground at Riverside Park, you can follow the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Facebook page HERE.
