Nearly 170 dogs were rescued on Monday from a farm in Worth County, Iowa near the Minnesota border. After an investigation that lasted nearly one month, authorities executed a search warrant at White Fire Kennel. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals calls the operation a 'puppy mill.'

The dogs, all Samoyeds, were found inside a home and a barn-like structure. Kennels meant for one dog were being used to house eight or nine. The dogs ranged in age from puppies up to around 9 years old. The ASPCA said the dogs were living in appalling and overcrowded conditions and showed signs of neglect and lack of clean drinking water.

The Worth County Sheriff's office stated that they had tried to work with the property owner previously in addressing the needs and welfare of the animals on the property. As of Monday afternoon, the property is still an active scene. Charges against the owner are pending. Officials say that the owner is a woman living alone on the farm.
