Why Swifties Like Brain’s Daughter Are Making Homemade Bracelets
Fans of Taylor Swift, or Swifties as they are better known, have always been a creative bunch. They're inspired by the actions and more often the words of their hero, Taylor Swift. My daughter Carly and I will be taking in Taylor and her Eras Tour performance in Kansas City on July 8th. But before our show, Carly began a huge project involving homemade bracelets.
Carly asked me if I could order her some bracelet-making supplies. When I asked her what she wanted to make bracelets for, she informed me that all Swifties were making them prior to Taylor Swift concerts. Then, while at the show, you exchange them with fellow fans. It's a way to meet new people who share a passion for the same music that you do. I ordered her supplies and after they arrived, Carly began working feverishly on her new passion project.
I asked Carly just where the inspiration for the bracelets came from. She answered, "Taylor's lyrics, of course." The song is off her current Midnights album and is one of Carly's favorites. The song 'You're On Your Own Kid' features the lyrics,
Everything you lose is a step you take / So make the friendship bracelets / Take the moment and taste it.
So naturally, Swifties everywhere took up the challenge and began making bracelets. Just what do the bracelets say or mean? Carly looked towards Taylor's music for inspiration. Her bracelets feature song titles like 'Clean.'
She made a bracelet in honor of her favorite Taylor Swift album, Speak Now.
Carly even made a bracelet in honor of the location of our concert next month.
Carly made several bracelets for friends who are going to see Taylor before our show. She even made one for a co-worker here at the radio station who is headed to Minneapolis to see the Eras Tour this weekend. And Keri gladly made one for Carly too! I'll let you see if you can figure out the connection to Taylor.
Carly and I can't wait for our concert next month. I can't wait to see all the fans interacting and bonding over a shared love of music. And I can't wait to debut the costume I'm wearing to the show! Which 'era' of Taylor and I dressing up like? Stay tuned to find out!
