It's time to make your New Year's resolution!  Go ahead and make them.  I'll sit here and watch you blab on about how you're going to excercise more, and work less and spend more time with your family.  Hey, don't get me wrong.  Those are goals we ALL should have, no matter what time of year it is.  I just hate the term "New Year's Resolution."  So many people break them, it's like you're giving yourself permission to fail.

Maybe I dislike resolutions so much because mine really don't change that much from year to year.  I'm 40, married and have 3 kids and a mortgage.  What are my yearly goals?  Try and live healthier.  The job makes it difficult.  The strange hours makes it harder to eat and excercise like I should.  My other goals?  Spend as much time as I can with my wife and kids, and to make sure they have everything they need.  Those are my constants, no matter if it's New Years or the Fourth of July.

This year will bring a different goal however.  Having lost someone close to me, I intend to spend more time with friends in 2015.  It's true we don't know how much time we have on this earth.  Treasure those around you, and never assume they know how you feel about them.  Tell them.  Show them.  That shouldn't just be a flippant resolution.  It should be the way you live your life.
