The first nominee is Ron Clements of Sioux City. He is the co-director and co-writer of Moana, which is nominated for best Animated Feature Film (his nomination) and Music (Original Song), according to Oscar.com.

According to WHO, he has two previous nominations for Treasure Planet and The Princess and the Frog. He also co-wrote and co-directed Aladdin, according to IMBD.

Skylar Gorrell, from Donnellson in southeast Iowa, is a Special Effects Technician, according to WWOW. He's nominated for his work in Deepwater Horizon, which is nominated for Best Special Effects. Oscar.com says the film also has a nomination for Best Sound Editing.

According to IMBD, Skylar has worked previously on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Oblivion, and 22 Jump Street. This is his first Oscar nomination.

The 89th Annual Academy Awards air Sunday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m. on ABC and we'll hopefully add to Iowa's list of five Oscar winners.
