Do you remember how much the tooth fairy paid when you were a kid? I do. I remember finding a bright shiny quarter under my pillow and being over the moon happy about it! But today, if you leave a quarter underneath a child's pillow, you'll get it thrown back in your face! According to a new survey, last year the tooth fairy paid out an average of $4.36 for one tooth.

Larger cities like New York saw that price increase to nearly $12 a tooth. That's ridiculous! When my kids lost teeth, the tooth fairy would leave them a dollar. One dollar, not five! And what is the tooth fairy doing with so much cash on hand anyway? What's next? Leaving pieces of silver, or gold nuggets under kid's pillows? How about stock futures? I understand the tradition of the tooth fairy leaving something, and I think it should continue, but maybe, just maybe, it should be information on a good dental plan.
