There's a cool new bar to check out in Iowa City!

According to a recent article from the Daily Iowan, a new business called The Box officially opened on February 17th at 525 South Gilbert Street in Iowa City. The building was most recently home to Mosley's, which officially closed last August. The Box is owned by Whitney and Server Kemac, and is described on Facebook as a "sports lounge with nightclub vibes." Whitney told the Daily Iowan, “We wanted to do a sports bar, but we wanted it to be more upscale."

As far as food goes, The Box has a fairly small menu. Items include Box Wings (Buffalo or Maple-Bourbon BBQ), Wild Mushroom Tacos, Peruvian Chicken Tacos, Buffalo Chicken Sliders, Truffle Artichoke Dip, Truffle Mushroom Flatbread, Box Twists, and Turkish Cigar Rolls. You can also order a dark chocolate fudge brownie drizzled with caramel and topped with whipped cream for dessert!

The drink menu at The Box has plenty of options, like imported and domestic beers, ciders, seltzers, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. There are a variety of signature and classic cocktails, too, like margaritas, mojitos, mules, and the "Hawkeye Gold," which contains Cedar Ridge Bourbon, Thai basil syrup, mandarin, and lemon.

According to the Daily Iowa, The Box has more in the works. The article says that are "plans for further expansion, including outdoor seating, a weekly brunch, and more DJ performances."

The Box is open Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Friday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. They host a Bottomless Brunch on Saturdays & Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Happy Hour runs daily from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For the latest updates from the new bar, you can check out the official Facebook page HERE.
