Steele – A Proud Uncle
I never played soccer growing up. We didn't have it at our school as it was just starting to gather steam as a sport played in school when I was graduating (yes...I am old.) My niece Morgan is a senior at DeKalb High School in Illinois and she HAS played soccer - LOTS of soccer. Her team is on the cusp of advancing to the IHSA "Elite Eight" and I am lucky enough to be going to see the game on Friday night. To watch her play is like watching a gazelle glide across an open field - quick, smooth, and GOAL!! Here's another amazing stat - Morgan has scored EVERY SINGLE GOAL in her team's 3-0 postseason run.
Morgan had considered coming to play soccer for the Hawkeyes, but decided on a different school. I tried Hawkeye Nation (she is even going into pre-med). I will have to remain a proud uncle from a state away. And Good Luck to the Lady Barbs this Friday. I'll be the one yelling loudest in the stands.
