The state of Iowa has some pretty amazing places to visit. Among my favorites are the ones that take you back to when Iowa was a young state just being settled. Some call it a simpler time, but if you asked anyone back then, they'd tell you it was far from simple! The site OnlyInYourState.com recently put together a list of historical villages in Iowa that will transport you back in time. Some of them I was familiar with, but I've never visited the others. That will change soon!

The one I am familiar with is the Herbert Hoover Museum in West Branch. Not only is Hoover's Presidential Library there, but so is a recreation of the early home and town that he lived in. There is the original Hoover home, a town hall and even a blacksmith. If you haven't been since grade school, it's time to visit!

The rest of the list features historic sites like the Amana Colonies and Usher's Ferry in Cedar Rapids. Check out all the spots and plan a trip back in time!
