A doctor and professor at Columbia University says making bacon part of your diet can make you happy. That alone makes me happy.

Drew Ramsey, MD, is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Columbia. He's also the co-author of a new book, "The Happiness Diet." In it, he says bacon is one of the brain-friendly foods that can make you happy. It includes oleic acid, which has been tied to lower depression levels in women. Add eggs to that breakfast with bacon and you get another essential nutrient, choline, which lowers anxiety. Use bacon as a flavoring and Dr. Ramsey says it could stimulate you to eat plants, obviously good for your diet. He also says that nearly a third of bacon's fat is left in the pan when you could it.

So what other foods can help your outlook on life? Ramsey says dark chocolate is another item to make part of your diet. Join us at Thomas Dostal Developers BaconFest, presented by Collins Community Credit Union Saturday, September 26th at NewBo City Market and I'm willing to bet you'll find many items that will have you in hog heaven.
