An Eastern Iowa Restaurant is Closing After 80+ Years in Business

It's the end of the road for a famous Eastern Iowa diner... for now!

According to a couple of Facebook updates, Ross' Restaurant at 2297 Falcon Avenue in Bettendorf is closing its doors this month. The announcement reads:

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the final day of operations for Ross' at our Falcon Drive location. Our last official day of business will be on February 12th. We would like to sincerely thank the millions of customers who have visited us over the years, some of you are a part of our daily routine and we will miss you all dearly!"

Ross' Restaurant was founded by Harold Ross in 1939. His first restaurant was located in Toledo, Iowa, but the website says that he and his wife June relocated and opened Ross' Restaurant in the Quad Cities in 1965. It's been visited by lots of huge names over the years, including Johnny Cash, Bill Murray, Will Ferrell, Keith Urban, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, and more. It's most famous dish is the "Magic Mountain," which consists of grilled Texas Toast covered with loose ground beef, your choice of hash browns or fries, and cheese sauce.

There is some good news, though! Ross' Restaurant doesn't plan to shut down forever. According to a Facebook post from January 29th:

"Our building is for sale/lease currently and our hope is for something amazing to take our place at Falcon Drive. Our family is still coping with the loss of our dear Cynthia, who was truly the heart of the business. We WILL open some classic Ross’ location(s) within the next few years, so it’s NOT goodbye, it’s see you later."
