December 31st, 1967.  The Ice Bowl.  It was the NFL championship game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers.  The game time temperature was -10.  Wind chills approached -40.  In the end, Bart Starr would score with seconds left to give Lombardi's Packers the NFL title.  This weekend, the Cowboys visit Lambeau Field for the first playoff match-up in Green Bay since that infamous day.  The forecast for Sunday?  Sunny and 19.  Not quite Ice Bowl part 2.  Actually, I was at the game dubbed Ice Bowl part 2.  January 20th, 2008.

The game time temperature was -2.  The wind chill was -20.  I was bundled up in every piece of warm weather clothing that I owned to watch the Packers take on the NY Giants for the right to play in the Super Bowl.  How cold was it?  People who bought beer at the concession stand had it freeze up on them by the time they got back to their seats.  The game was fantastic.  It ended going into overtime, where unfortunately, the Packers lost on a last second field goal.  It was Brett Favre's last game as a Packer.  That loss still hurts, but the memories I have of that cold day in Wisconsin will last forever.

At the Packer Hall Of Fame, one of the exhibits is a recreation of the final play of the Ice Bowl in 1967.  During our visit a few years ago, Chase and I lined up on opposite sides of the line.  Little did he know his pass rush wouldn't matter.  Bart Starr was going to dive in over the right guard for the winning score!  Here's hoping Sunday's Packer vs. Cowboys game provides more great playoff memories...and a Packer win of course!  GO PACK GO!
