Maren Morris' powerful "Girl" video is an uplifting message to women everywhere — and a social statement.

The music video for "Girl" intersperses performance shots of Morris with scenes from the lives of a wide variety of women of different backgrounds and races, from a woman who's sadly drinking alone in her kitchen to a female boxer and a number of important female relationships.

The clip celebrates not only women, but the concept of diversity. Watch closely and you'll also see the country star at a women's march and a young mother approaching what appears to be a border fence.

Morris premiered the new video via YouTube on Thursday afternoon (Jan. 24), and she engaged in a live chat with her fans directly before. The star enlisted director Dave Meyers to shoot the video for "Girl," which is the lead single from Morris' upcoming sophomore album. The award-winning director's credits include videos for Missy Elliott, Kendrick Lamar, Pink and Katy Perry, among others, but "Girl" marks the first time Meyers has directed a music video for a country artist or a Nashville-based artist.

Morris crossed over into pop and scored one of the biggest hits of the last year with "The Middle," her collaboration with Zedd and Grey. She's the most-nominated country artist in the upcoming 2019 Grammy Awards, nominated for Record, Pop Duo/Group Performance, Country Solo Performance, Country Duo/Group Performance and Country Song of the Year.

The 28-year-old married singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd in 2018, and she says the security of their relationship has given her a new perspective on her music.

"Me choosing 'Girl' as the first single, it's about transitioning from someone who felt like she didn't need anybody into someone who very much needs people, and is okay with admitting that," she says in a new interview with Billboard. "That really frightening vulnerability that I've been trying to avoid, I'm not doing that any longer."
