Lady Antebellum Discuss Challenges of Playing ‘Bartender’ Acoustically

Lady Antebellum arrived at the 2014 CMA Music Festival ready to rock, but before they pulled out the electric guitars and all the stops at LP Field, they played an acoustic morning set on Sunday (June 9). The band sat down with Sam Alex of Taste of Country Nights to discuss the challenges of playing their new hit ‘Bartender‘ at 10AM.

Trio member Charles Kelley explains, “That was the first time we ever performed it acoustic. You definitely have to give it a little more energy — as much as you can acoustic, because that one is a very upbeat, kind of rocker type of song.”

The band pulled off the acoustic set, and much to their delight, the fans knew every single word. Adds Dave Haywood, “We did a little break-down at the end. When you hear people sing a song that’s only been out for two or three weeks, that feels great.”

‘Bartender’ is off their forthcoming fifth studio album, and Kelley promises that it will hold lots of upbeat, exciting songs like ‘Bartender,’ saying, “‘Downtown’ and ‘Compass’ showed us that our fans were ready for a little more energy from us. It was time get some fresh new music out there.”

Whether they’re playing acoustically or with a full, rockin’ band, Lady A proves they delight country fans whenever they open their mouths.

Sam Alex is the host of Taste of Country Nights radio, a syndicated night show which airs on more than 60 Townsquare Media Group stations nationwide.
