Kelly Clarkson Reportedly in Talks for ‘American Idol’ Reboot
Clarkson was the very first winner of American Idol and has been a mainstay on the Billboard charts since her coronation single "A Moment Like This" went to No. 1 in 2002. According to TMZ, Clarkson is in "serious talks" to return to the show that made her a household name.
TMZ says that ABC has shown “serious interest” in recruiting Clarkson, and the singer is also eager for the role. The publication adds that "people on her team are already looking to clear her schedule during the time the show will be filmed."
Additionally, Idol may be filmed one day a week, instead of two to three episodes each week like in previous seasons. TMZ also says auditions will likely be held in two central locations — Disney World and Disney Land — instead of in different cities across the country.
While these details are yet to be confirmed, it's also rumored that former host Ryan Seacrest will be back. While the host is keeping busy with his new role on Live With Kelly and Ryan, a return to American Idol is not entirely out of the question.
“I don’t know about that part yet, we haven’t gotten that far,” Seacrest said earlier this week on Live! about returning to AI. However, since both shows are broadcast on ABC, things may be easier. “I said, ‘Well, that’s kind of good to know, I work here!’”
Update: It was confirmed late Thursday (May 11) that Clarkson is joining The Voice for Season 14, not the American Idol reboot — at least for now.
