Saturday was the day my wife looks forward to for about 364 days every year. The Iowa Ladies Football Academy in Iowa City. Add Chris Soules to the mix, and she was euphoric.

This past Saturday was the fifth annual Iowa Ladies Football Academy in and around Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. My wife Julie and her friend Laurie are two of only around a dozen that have been part of the event all five years. They get to punt, throw the pigskin, kick field goals, try their hands at receiving, and tour the facilities. Julie was very displeased with her punting efforts this year. She's quite the competitor.

2015 also afforded the opportunity to meet the 'Bachelor,' Chris Soules. He handed out yellow roses to each participant, and Julie was sure to tell him that she'd be happy to accept it. Thank goodness the thing was yellow, or I might still be looking for her.

This year's event raised more than $180,000 for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and the five-year total is well over one-millon dollars. Well done ladies and the same goes for Kirk & Mary Ferentz, other coaches, players, cheerleaders, Herky, and countless volunteers. It takes a village and there could be no greater cause than the kids.
