During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a surge in drive-in theater shows. It allowed families and friends to get out of the house and enjoy an affordable show.

Unfortunately, here in Iowa there aren't too many left for people to check out. There are less than five official drive-in theaters that are still around and open here. I think it's a crime that there are not as many drive-ins as there used to be here in the Hawkeye State.

One of these theaters is actually considered one of the very best in the Midwest. In several lists of the best drive-in theaters in each state, both Mental Floss and Insider determined the best theater in Iowa.

Located in Delmar, 61 Drive In Theatre is a single screen theater. It also is one of the very first in the Midwest to utilize digital projection and FM stereo sound.

A short drive from the Maquoketa Caves State Park, 61 is currently showing the newest Spiderman movie and the highly anticipated 'The Flash" film. Other movies that will be playing here this summer include; 'Sonic 2', 'Barbie', 'Elemental', and 'The Marvels.'
