Many of our pets are enjoying this nice summer weather as much as we are, because it means more walks and more time outside! But, it goes without saying that the heat can be very bad for our pups.

Not only can dogs get heatstroke (just like humans), but extreme heat can also hurt their paws! Moon Valley Canine Training posted a photo to Facebook in June that got over 100,000 shares, and it sends a very important message to dog owners:

The five-second rule: Place the back of your hand on the pavement. If you cannot hold it for five seconds, it's too hot to walk your dog.

So, next time it's hot out and you're thinking of taking the dog out for a walk, make sure to test the sidewalk with the back of your hand.
