While the sale of certain fireworks is still illegal in the state of Iowa, a large number seem to somehow make their way into the state during the summer season, especially around the 4th of July. You can buy sparklers and a few other kinds of flammable fun here in Iowa. No matter what type of fireworks are part of your celebration, it's important to keep a few things in mind so you won't end up taking a trip to the ER.

  • Be careful with sparklers. They can reach temperatures of 1200 degrees. A safer choice for younger kids might be glow sticks.
  • Never wear loose clothing while using fireworks.
  • Never light them indoors or near a dry grassy area.
  • Be prepared! Have a bucket of water of fire extinguisher nearby just in case.
  • The best way to stay safe? Leave the fireworks to the professionals! Head to a fireworks show in your area. We suggest downtown Cedar Rapids on the 4th of July, the best fireworks display in eastern Iowa! We'll be at the amphitheater all day on the fourth for the Thomas Dostal Developers Freedom Festival Concert featuring Eric Paslay, and you can be, too! Buy your tickets now.

Following these tips will make sure you and your family have a safe, happy and FUN 4th of July!
