Iowa State, minus one of their big three, Georges Niang, was still able to knock off North Carolina yesterday to advance to their first Sweet 16 in nearly 15 years.  Former Linn-Mar prep Marcus Paige was tremendous again, leading the Tar Heels with 19 points.  What a game it was, including the clock controversy at the end of the game that the officials handled beautifully (they give their explanation to North Carolina coach Roy Williams and Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg above).  Despite getting tired of officials going to "the monitor" during the first week of the tournament, they clearly got this one right and it led to Hoiberg dancing in the locker room afterward:

While Fred clearly dances better than me (not saying much, I assure you), his coaching ability is unquestioned.  Hoiberg's four-year record at Iowa State now stands at 90-46, and 74-30 the last three seasons.  His Cyclones take on 7th seeded Connecticut Friday night (6:27 Iowa time on 'TBS).  A victory there would mean a match-up with either top-seeded Virginia or Michigan State on Sunday for the right to go to the Final Four.  If Iowa State were to make it, it would be their second-ever trip, and the first since 1944.

Good luck Iowa State.  The whole state will be cheering you on.
