The Fill the Plate Telethon

The Heritage Agency on Aging is excited to announce the return of the Fill the Plate telethon to bring greater support and awareness for the Regional Senior Nutrition Home Delivered and Congregate Meal Program. The 2015 Fill the Plate telethon will be broadcast on Sunday, December 6, 2015 on KCRG 9.2. This effort was a great success in the past four years, reaching over 75,000 viewers annually and generating over $199,000 in direct financial and material support to help provide nutritious meals to older adults throughout East Central Iowa. In 2015, the Fill the Plate effort will continue to raise vital financial and material support and local engagement for this critical program now and into the future. All funds raised will go directly to the Heritage Area Agency on Aging Senior Home Delivered and Congregate Meal Program to provide funding for meals and much needed food service equipment.
The cost of providing a year of home delivered meals to an older adult is less than one day in a hospital setting. Additionally, participants that receive daily meals and live alone, experience the greatest improvements in health and quality of life and also are less likely to worry about being able to remain in their home and feel less isolated and lonely
