The short version: There’s lots of new stuff coming to Netflix this May, including the returns of Netflix Originals Bloodline and Grace and Frankie. The second Adam Sandler Netflix movie arrives (that’s The Do-Over, with David Spade), and on the not-made-by-Netflix side of things you’ve got the recent movie version of Goosebumps with Jack Black (which was actually pretty great), Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief, and the powerful satire Pleasantville.
The best part of each new month is the stuff that gets added to Netflix. The worst part of each new month is the stuff that gets taken from Netflix. And this month’s list of expiring titles is actually pretty extensive; there’s a Ridley Scott double bill (Black Hawk Down and the theatrical cut of Blade Runner), Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (Bogus!), the terrific Polish drama Ida, and the surreal horror flick Escape From Tomorrow, which was shot on the grounds of Walt Disney World without the company’s permission.
The original 1960 John Sturges film is a classic, as is the film that influenced it, Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai. Will this new reboot of The Magnificent Seven be as good as either one of those films...
Before we get started, we know what you’re thinking: Han Solo is dead dummies. Yes, we know. But dead people have a way of reappearing in movies, especially Star Wars movies, so last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host asked Harrison Ford point blank if he knew whether Han Solo would return in some capacity for Star Wars: Episode 8 and his response was very interesting...
If you watched last night’s Oscars, surely you saw Lady Gaga’s showstopper performance of “Til It Happens to You,” her Oscar nominated song from The Hunting Ground. Gaga’s performance, which brought the audience to its feet, introduced survivors of sexual assault onto the stage at the end of the song as they all stood hand-in-hand. It was a powerful moment, but equally as powerful was a moment you didn’t see: Oscar-winner walking up and hugging every single survivor as they walked off stage during a commercial break.
Ready for the Oscars this Sunday? Need help winning your Oscar pool? The ScreenCrush staff — Editor-in-Chief Mike Sampson, Managing Editor Matt Singer and Senior Editor Erin Whitney — are here to help, or at least try their best anyway. They’ve seen all the movies (yes, even those documentary shorts!) and have come back with a definitive list of who will win at the 2016 Oscars. Normally these lists might have a lot of disparity, but strangely this year’s panel of experts largely agrees on the winners. That could mean good things for you and your office pool. Follow these selections to Oscar glory and bring home all the spoils. Or, come back on Monday morning to yell at them for they gave you really bad advice.
Football fans are no doubt excited for the 2016 Super Bowl, but even non-sports fans can find something to enjoy. No, we’re not talking about Cam Newton handing out footballs to little kids or Peyton Manning’s last stand, we’re talking about the Super Bowl movie trailers that will be airing during the commercial breaks. With the 2016 Super Bowl set to air on CBS this Sunday, we thought now would be the perfect time to run through what we know is going to debut during the big game and what surprises could still be in store. We’ll continue to update with any last minute surprises, and you can watch all the 2015 Super Bowl trailers on our site as they become available.
