It usually starts around 11:30am on Sunday.  I have my lunch and I head down into the family room for the weekly viewing of the Chicago Bears game.  A lot of what my wife and I do when 'Da Bears play is very ritualistic.  I always want to catch the last 30 minutes of the pregame show.  I usually have my lunch (or refreshments of some variety) with me.  Misty (my wife) is usually quick to follow and she'll have her Julius Peppers jersey on and she is tethered to her cell phone checking her Fantasy Football team to make sure everyone is good to start.  The deeper into the season we get, I have a fire built in the fireplace.  Then there is our bulldog Chilli.  He gets up on the couch and we are good to go for kickoff.

Yesterday was an exception as the game was delayed nearly two hours by severe weather.  Watching them clear the ten of thousands out of the stadium was pretty unbelievable.  The storms ended up bringing tornadoes to some parts of the state of Illinois.  As we sat in our little cocoon that included a big screen TV, a roaring fire, and comfort, it started to occur to me that these storms were making things in my home state devastating.  When the game started up again, it was with thoughts of those who lost everything because of these freak-of-nature storms.

We celebrated a Bears victory...but perspective made it a tempered celebration.  I hope those who were in the path of the storms and are facing a different life today know that they are on many minds.
