5 Completely Valid, Non-Gas Guzzling Transportation Methods In Iowa

The price of gas is getting ridiculous in Iowa but luckily there's some fantastic ways you can save on gas money.

I filled up my car a day ago and had a mini-stroke when I swiped my card. According to the AAA, the average gas price in Iowa today is $3.93. Last week, it was $3.55 for regular. I'm sorry, what? How did we go up a full $.50 in a week?

Illinois is just as bad, with a state average this week of about $3.99.

GasBuddy reports that the current spike in Midwest gas prices could be caused by a refinery outage. Brian Ortner with the AAA told the Des Moines Register that the price of crude oil, which gets refined into gasoline, has gone up too.

That pesky extra $75,000 has just been taking up space in your bank account, right? Get a Tesla and, like you've done with your phone, really see how far being on 10% battery can carry you.

2. A Shopping Cart (Or Put Wheels On A Laundry Basket)

Grab an oar or a stick to push yourself along, blare the "Pirates of the Caribbean" soundtrack and you're golden and gasoline-free.

1. Make An Electric Blow-Kart

Yep that is a sail attached to a go-kart. Thrillist (accurately) calls this contraption "virginity-saving" but it can also be gas money-saving and good for the environment or whatever.

Of course, you could be legit in saving gas money and bicycle to work or ride the bus but why would you when these alternative non-gasoline methods are so fun? Gas prices in Iowa normally drop in the fall and winter so hopefully that's not too far away.
