The annual fundraising event for the foundation run by Cedar Rapids native and pro golfer Zach Johnson announced Wednesday that it will be altering the way it conducts itself in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

KCRG TV reports that the 10th annual Zach Johnson Foundation Classic scheduled for July 27th will be closed to the public. Spectators, volunteers, and food vendors will not be allowed on the grounds of the golf course. Johnson and the board issued the following statement.

The Zach Johnson Foundation Classic has always been and continues to be about so much more than golf. And just because the event will look different this year and school will be closed for the remainder of the school year, our mission hasn't changed. We are still supporting the students and families served by our Kids on Course program.

I've been to several of Zach's events in Cedar Rapids. It's a shame this year will be without the fans. Zach and all the other PGA golfers and celebrities he has come in to play are always very generous with their time and really let fans get up close to the game of golf. Here's hoping that things can get back to normal in 2021.
