When my fiance and I moved here from Minnesota last year, one of the first things we wanted to do was try as many different restaurants as possible. We wanted to find our favorite spots so that when people came to visit, we weren't always guessing where to go out for dinner. We wanted to have a handful of favorites that we could rely on to have good food.

This past weekend (July 15-16), we went to visit some friends of ours who live in Calmar, Iowa. Shoutout to Spencer and Erika! They might've just introduced us to my new favorite burger place in the entire state. One of the best burgers I've had, so far at least, is in Fort Atkinson, Iowa.

For the foreseeable future, anytime I'm around the Fort Atkinson area, I'll be making a stop to grab a Flash Burger. What I loved most about this burger is that it doesn't include a bun. Instead of putting the ingredients between two pieces of bread, they place the ingredients under hashbrowns.

I ate through mine way too fast and forgot to grab a picture but this picture from The Fort's Facebook page will do just fine.

The best part is that you can basically have it custom-made to taste however you'd like it to. The burger I ordered looked almost exactly like this, I just happened to add an egg on top. You can add mushrooms, onions, peppers, jalapenos, bacon, pickles, an egg, etc. You could order a Flashburger and have it taste a little bit different every single time you stop in.

They come in a variety of sizes; 12oz, 8oz, and 5oz. I ordered the 8oz and I needed a box when we were finished to bring the leftovers home. There is a lot of food added to these.

If you're ever around the Fort Atkinson area, want to make a day trip, or are simply looking for something you've never tried...go to The Fort and try the Flash Burger. If you'd like to add onions, mushrooms, or green peppers, there is an additional 25-cent charge, and for bacon, a fried egg, or jalapenos, there's an additional $1 charge.

In my opinion, it was money well spent! The Fort is located at 100 Oak St, Fort Atkinson, Iowa.
