So...the groundhog was KINDA right.

We will deal with a huge winter storm this week but let's think happier, sunnier, warmer thoughts. Spring will actually officially start at 10:51 p.m. on March 19 this year. Doesn't it usually start on the 20th? Yes and no. The Spring Equinox, according to TimeAndDate.com is "the exact instant when the Sun is directly overhead the equator and the Earth's rotational axis is tilted neither towards nor away from the sun". That can occur anywhere between March 19-21.

When it starts on the 19th, we can chalk it up to one thing: leap year/day. Which means this will happen again in four years when we have a 29th day of February again.

Suffice to say, we're all excited for Spring, whenever it starts, but hold your horses. It doesn't just mean sunny and 70 will magically appear and be here to stay right away. We often still see snow through April, and if you're a pessimist like me, you don't even write it off until May.

But, it's exciting to know the "official" start of Spring is happening a tad early this year! We'll take it as early as we can get it. Heck, the meteorologists commemorate the first day of "meteorological Spring" on March 1. I like their thinking.
